It was a Saturday evening and new books had arrived at the library. There were about a 1000 books lined up in front of me. The entry has to be made in the computer on the same day of delivery, and thus I was left with no choice but to finish the work. So I decided that I would work till late at night.
James, the library assistant, had arranged all the books as per their authors and now all I had to do was enter the names in the system. James had also decided to stay back and help me. So, I sat on the system all set to make the entries. But as I tried opening a new document on the excel sheet, the system won’t let me. I could not understand the problem with the system. As an alternative, just to store the entries, I thought that they can also be stored on a word document and after a week when I'm back from my vacation, I would copy the data from the excel sheet. But even the microsoft office was not opening any new document.
For about 10 minutes, I was struggling to open word and excel, when James asked me what was holding things up. I told him that I can’t open new documents. He told me that there was some problem with the entire Microsoft Office application. It was the last thing I could afford at that hour. I was clueless as to should be done. By next week there was another 1000 books coming in and it would be difficult to enter all the data for 2000 books in one day.
Just then James took out a piece of paper from his purse with a number written on it. He told me that he had once called up this number in the middle of the night to get some help with his computer and it proved to be useful. I dialed the number hoping that my problem be resolved. A guy picked up the phone and I told him about the problem I was facing. He asked me some basic questions about my PC. I used the library’s maintenance fund for making a small payment that was required for the service. After I made the payment, he took control of my screen and started to perform some steps on the computer. Within few minutes he told me that the problem with Microsoft Office has been taken care of. I checked the computer; it was running as good as new. I thanked him for all his help and such an instant tech support. James and I went back to work and within a couple of hours we were good to head back home.
